Jamie Spring
I am a father of three boys - Benjamin, Matthew and Luke, who all went to Reedings and are currently at Leventhorpe. For the last fifteen years I've been an anti-financial crime consultant - mainly at KPMG but now working freelance - which involves helping firms with the prevention, detection and investigation of money laundering and terrorist financing; bribery and corruption; fraud; and financial sanctions.
I volunteered for the governor role, as I was keen to make a positive contribution to the education of the children of Sawbridgeworth (and the surrounding areas) using the enthusiasm and the skills that I've learnt during my career so far.
After five years, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the governors I've worked with and the parents for your continued support and to assure you that the Governing Body is committed to and very proud of our School. I will continue to work with Mrs Newton and her excellent staff; the governors; parents/ carers; and pupils, as we all collectively strive to ensure that every child in the School can succeed and reach their full potential.
If you have a concern or a point of view to share, please let me know. I can be contacted via the School Office or by e-mail j.haslerspring@reedings.herts.sch.uk

Beccy Newton
After working as a Swimming Instructor, Nanny and in nurseries, I decided to train to become a teacher and studied a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Winchester in Primary Education with QTS and specialising in Art. Upon completion of my first and final 3 month teaching practice in East London, I never returned home and stayed to teach in Upton Park. I then went on to become a Head in Tottenham before moving to become a Head at Reedings in leafy Sawbridgeworth.My ambition has always been to make every child’s primary school days as wonderful as my own, creating life long learners with the best memories and the skills and knowledge ready for their next chapters.As the Headteacher, I oversee the strategic and operational leadership at Reedings . As a governor I create and oversee the school leaders’ reports, the evaluations of school effectiveness and the link between the schools’ resources and learning priorities. I work in close partnership with the chair to review the working of committees and the quality of the information that governors receive from the school to make their strategic decisions.I am also Vice Chair of Governors at Avanti Grange Secondary and Sixth Form. -

Rob Morgan
I am a parent of two children, Poppy who went to Reedings and Jaxon who is at F & B. I have spent my entire working career dealing with people, whether in a customer service capacity, sales or as I do currently, managing a global distribution network for a medical devices company. Interacting with people is something I thrive on and when the opportunity presented itself to become a member of the governing body it really appealed to me. I am now in my 3rd year and thoroughly enjoy the role and responsibility that comes with it. Seeing how the school is run from the inside and witnessing the immense amount of hard-work that goes into giving all the children the best possible education really is something quite special.
In my spare time I also coach a local under 7 football team and occasionally assist with my daughter’s cricket team.
I like to think of myself as a friendly and approachable person, so if you do have any concerns or ideas you would like considered, please feel free to either grab me outside the gates or drop me an email.

Angus EvansResources Committee Chair (Co-opted)
Angus Evans
I have been a member of the governing body at Reedings for over a decade. All three of my children attended Reedings but it is over 9 years since my youngest moved to “big” school. I chose to remain a governor at Reedings as I felt it was a way to support not just the school but the wider community.
I have worked in the pharmaceutical industry for nearly 20 years in sales, management and marketing. I feel my experiences allow me to support the school across a number of areas.
In my spare time I enjoy travelling, walking and exercise, mainly to allow me to drink and eat what I want.

Laura Todd
I have been a Governor at Reeding's for 3 years, focusing on Special Educational Needs (SEN), Mental Health, Wellbeing, PSHE, and Equality.
Professionally, I have worked for Essex County Council since 2000, supporting young people and their families. Over the past 12 years I've specifically assisted young people who have an Essex Education Health and Care plan (EHCP) aged 13-25. My role involves visiting schools, colleges, homes, and communities to provide impartial Information, advice, and guidance. I enjoy directly supporting and advocating for young people and their families/carers and ensuring they receive appropriate opportunities and support tailored to their needs with the young person being at the centre throughout. I have built up a wealth of knowledge and experience which is transferable into my role as Governor.
A bit about me:
- I am married and have two daughters and a cocker spaniel named Arthur.
- I am always whistling, listening to music, and singing.
- Enjoy spending time with family and friends, sunny days, holidays, and good food.
- Love reading and going to the gym, particularly spinning and circuits!
- I completed a Montessori qualification and through continuous professional development including training I have built up a good knowledge and understanding of SEN, especially Autism and ADHD (with particular learning and focus on neurodiversity in girls), to enable me to better support neurodiverse children and young people.

Emma Hearne
I am married, have three sons and live in a rural Essex village. I used to live in Sawbridgeworth and became a Governor in 2014 with a view to working in education.
Before having a family I worked as an Executive Assistant at FSCS for 19 years. The role included diary management, data analysis, budgeting, project management, facilities and HR. Whilst on maternity leave, I completed my Level 4 Diploma in School Business Management.
Due to family commitments, I left my busy London job and joined the Reedings school office in May 2020. I am now the Finance Manager in a busy office looking after our wonderful children.
As a governor I currently lead on Pupil Premium, CLA (Children Looked After) and Science.
I love to dance, enjoy running and spending quality time with my family and friends!

After completing a degree in Environmental Science, I decided to return to my wish of being a teacher and completed my teacher training in London before moving to Hertfordshire to begin my career. I have worked at Reedings for over 10 years, first as a class teacher, then Assistant Head and now I have the privilege of being the Deputy Headteacher.
I have been on the governing body since 2014 as a staff governor and a member of the LTP committee.
Outside of school, I love taking long walks with my dog Stormy, spending time with friends and family, which involves a lot of wonderful travelling around the world as they live in different countries.

Kit Pyman
Since graduating with a BA in History I have worked as a civil servant in the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for nearly a decade. I’ve worked in a range of diverse roles over the years spanning policy and strategy and currently work on climate change adaptation.
My wife and I have recently moved to Sawbridgeworth with our young daughter. Everyone we meet talks about how the local schools, especially Reedings, are such an asset for the town. Becoming a co-opted governor seemed like the perfect opportunity to combine my commitment to public service with my desire to contribute to our community and invest my time and energy in educating the next generation.
As a governor, I lead on Foundation subjects (History, RE, Geography, Music, Art, DT), Computing, Online Safety and Training.

As ED Corporate Services I work with the Board and Exec Team to develop our Corporate Strategy with delivery through our People Services, Business Assurance & Risk, Marketing & Communications and Business Transformation teams.
I have a background in governance and look to use my skills and knowledge to support the Governors and Senior Leaders at Reedings

I am a parent to Thomas at Reedings, and Zara in F&B, where I am employed as a Midday Assistant. I am a trustee of the PTA across both schools, as well as a volunteer at Reedings. I also volunteer as a cricket coach in the Summer, and am a trustee at the Sawbridgeworth Memorial hall. Though born in Hertfordshire, I grew up and was educated in South Africa. After completing my conscription to the SA Defence Force, I spent a few years COBOL programming before attaining a Microsoft MCSE and spending 25+ years in IT Infrastructure operations and Project Management.
In my spare time I enjoy socialising, travelling, supporting rugby and am a PADI-certified diver. My party trick is that I can recite the alphabet backwards.
I believe that you either inherit, or create the community you want to live in, and with Sawbridgeworth being such a fantastic community I enjoy "doing my bit".
I am grateful and excited to be appointed as a Reedings governor and look forward to the challenge.

I am mum to Grace, a student at Reedings, and step mum to two older boys, David and Daniel, who went through Windhill and The Bishop Stortford High School and are now at university.
As a parent governor I’m delighted to be a bridge between the student body and the school’s administration. A journalist at heart, having worked for various news agencies in Brussels and Paris as well as the Bishop’s Stortford Independent, I now work as a Marketing and Communications professional, most recently as Head of Content for Bett, the world’s largest education technology conference.

The role of Governors
School governors form the biggest volunteer group in the country. Governors contribute to the leadership of a school and work with the headteacher to set the school's strategic direction and raise standards. Governing bodies also act as a 'critical friend' to challenge and support the school. They do not become involved in the day-to-day management of the school, as the responsibility for this lies with the headteacher.
What do Governing Bodies do?
- Develop and ensure the school's clarity of vision.
- Hold the headteacher to account to ensure very child has the best possible education.
- Oversee the financial performance of the school, making sure money is well spent.
- Engage with pupils, staff, parents and the school community to understand their views.
How are Governing Bodies made up?
Governing bodies were required to undergo a process of re-constitution before September 2015. This was to ensure they have a dynamic governing body which is no larger than it needs to be, with governors who are actively contributing the relevant skills and experiences.
Governing Bodies are made up of the following:
- Parent Governors - elected by other parents at the school;
- Staff Governors - elected by school staff;
- The Headteacher;
- A Local Authority (LA) Governor - nominated by the LA and appointed by governors;
- Co-opted Governors - chosen and appointed by governors.
At Reedings, governors have organised themselves into two committees.
1.) Learning, Teaching and Performance (LTP)
2.) Resources
Each committee meets at least 3 times throughout the school year, in addition to 5 Full Governing Body meetings (FGB) where all governors attend. Governors are also expected to conduct visits to the school once per term at a mutually convenient time.
Vacancies
Reedings Junior School prides itself on being part of the community and the Governing Body is now looking for members of that community to come and join them as a co-opted governors OR a parent/carer governor.
Full training and mentoring will be provided. Interested candidates are welcome to contact the school office or Jamie Spring (Chair of Governors) for more information.
